The Dunlop SportSmart TT is a Trackday and Competition Summer tyre designed to be fitted to Motorcycle
Dunlop has announced they will launch a fourth new tyre in their hypersport portfolio in March 2018. The Dunlop SportSmart TT has been developed to meet the needs of riders with the very latest sports bikes and performance roadsters who want to use the same tyre on track and for road riding.
The name SportSmart TT derives from Dunlop’s road focused SportSmart range and adds the letters TT, which refer to “Track Technology”.
The launch of the SportSmart TT marks Dunlop’s comeback to a segment of the market where they last competed with the renowned Qualifier RR over a decade ago.
The Road 5 will vary from the Pilot Road 4 series in a number of ways, but most specifically in its ability to shed water from the tyre and road surface as the tyre wears. Thanks to the XST siping technology that Michelin introduced with the Pilot Road 3, the tires have a great ability to evacuate water from the tire surface ensuring the rubber connects to the road. As the tire wears down, the grooves in the tyres decrease in volume and thus are less effective in evacuating water.
The new Road 5 sipes, now called XST Evo, has been adapted from Michelin’s automotive division. The technology is borrowed from Michelin’s Evergrip tread design which was first introduced in the MICHELIN Premier A/S tyre in 2014.
The combination of three technologies helped the MICHELIN ROAD 5 to deliver the best wet-weather grip in a recent in-house comparison with the new tyre’s five main rivals.
To achieve this level of performance, the MICHELIN ROAD 5 benefits from:
Latest-generation rubber compounds,
Dual-compound technology (MICHELIN 2CT and MICHELIN 2CT+ Technology),
Motorcycle News has selected its ‘Tyre of the Year’, and again it is the Metzeler Roadtec 01. The back-to-back victory for the sport touring tyre, comments Metzeler, confirms the “excellent qualities” that the Roadtec 01 possesses.
The decision to name the Roadtec 01 the MCN Tyre of the Year is the latest in a series of honours to come its way since the tyre’s launch in January 2016. In its debut year it was voted Best Sports Touring tyre by MCN and it also topped the comparative test published by German magazine Motorrad. Later in the year, the Metzeler tyre was crowned Tyre of the Year by MCN for the first time. This year, MCN repeated the sport touring tyre comparative test and the winner was again the Metzeler Roadtec 01. Two consecutive successes in this crucial market segment convinced the editorial team to also award it Tyre of the Year in 2017.
